In order understand the significance and future of science,we must make clear the interaction between science and society.Although a consensus on this understanding has reached among scholars specializing in zhis field and even in public,so far an explicit analytic framework for related scientific research and social research is unavailable.Based on the outlook of cultural evolutionism,zhis article tries to tentatively put forward an analytic framework,and purovided a century's review in the context of the past millennum science and society in China and West.It goes without saying that wizhout a system of modern democracy,it is impossible to make science prosperous and wizhout a system of modernized market,technological progress is out of the question.Similarly,without our deserved contribution to the worlds science and technology,the Chinese naton is not able to get foot-hold of equality among other nations in todays world.
